“During the second half of the 14th centuries, institutions arose in other parts of the continent, including Germany, several Central European nations, and even Albania and Scotland. Even with this northward and eastward expansion, new universities continued to be founded in Italy and France. In historical retrospect this was no small feat, considering the Middle Ages were fraught with territorial wars and widespread epidemics…”

Scholars of the Middle Ages is a cooperative multi-player game where players work together against time (and plague!) to establish the first universities in Europe. Players must collaborate and use their scholars to found universities in four different time periods during the Middle Ages, ranging from the early 1200’s and before to the early 1400’s AD. Scholars of the Middle Ages is a great introduction to European geography and to the early days of the Western university system as we know it today.
